My crochet story
by carmilyn van ryn
Growing up as a little girl, I always admired my sisters and cousins crocheting doilies and pineapple tablecloths. I never got the opportunity to learn from them, but I always had the desire to learn. In my mid-twenties, life got a little stressful, and that’s when I decided to learn to crochet. I went to the store and bought a book titled ‘I Taught Myself to Crochet.’ I read it, but still I didn’t understand how to crochet. One night, I decided to pray and ask God for guidance and direction on how to crochet. That’s when it started to click in my head. Since then, I have made many different useful items, especially warm winter wear such as hats, scarves, mittens, ponchos, blankets and even dog sweaters. Funny thing, though, I have yet to crochet a doily or a pineapple tablecloth!
